October Birchbox 2013

the balm- cosmetics Stainiac $17

dr. brandt® microdermabrasion skin exfoliant $78

12 Benefits™ Instant Healthy Hair Treatment - 8 oz $21

dr. brandt® light years away whitening renewal solution 3.9oz - $55

dr. brandt light years away whitening cream cleanser 3.17oz- $45

My box was ok this month. I am most excited about the chapstick which I have been a long time fan of the brand. I was excited to see the balm in there, just not to fond of stains. i really was hoping to get the Benefit or the masks that I was seeing :(

Unfortunately this may be my last box.  After seeing some great boxes, I wanted to try again but I am just not sure if I want to continue with Birchbox. I don't really like that everyone gets different things, I understand there will be some tweaks here and there but my boxes are always completely different from everyone's I see. Also these two months both my boxes were ruined by leaking and spilled products, not sure if it was from it being packaged or handling through mail. I might return in the future and I am sure as soon as I stop I'll see some great boxes again, that's the way it goes. :) But for now I think I'll be putting it on pause!

November is National Healthy Skin Month: How to wash your face

So many of us have gotten into the routine of absent mindedly washing our faces each morning and night, but are we really taking into consideration a few tiny tricks that can make all the difference in a more effective wash?  Washing your face seems like a pretty straightforward practice, right?  While a quick splash of water and some soap might be all you need, there are some subtle things you may be doing that could be the cause of excessive drying, oily skin or  Fear not -- a few simple tweaks can make your skin healthier. Because November is National Healthy Skin Month, La Jolla, board certified dermatologist Dr. Susan Stuart felt it was time to get this simple cleansing practice down right.

It's important to stimulate your lymph system to get much needed oxygen and blood circulating in your face. Also, be sure that you are using the correct cleanser for your skin type and please try to avoid bar soaps at all costs — they can really dry out your skin. Dr. Stuart explains that, “the goal of face washing is to unclog pores and to dissolve dirt, makeup and remove excess oils. You may not realize that this is also a great opportunity to slough off dead skin cells by exfoliating.”

Lastly, have you considered the route you take? Begin washing your face starting at your forehead and work your way to your nose, then outwards to your cheeks and eventually down to your face and neck. A proper face wash is a really simple way to maintain the health of your skin.

Dr. Stuart’s four step process for correct washing

STEP 1: Begin by washing your hands. (You don't want all of the grease, grime and germs from your hands on your face, do you?) And, if you have on any eye makeup, remove it before you begin to cleanse.

STEP 2: Wet your face completely with tepid water. Anything too hot will shock the skin and could even burst capillaries, resulting in those sensitive red marks usually found around the nose and cheeks. Next, squeeze a dime-sized amount of cleanser onto your fingertips and rub them together. Use your fingertips to massage the cleanser into your skin (anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute) in small and gentle circular motions.

STEP 3: One of the best ways to ensure that dirt and makeup are removed is by using a muslin cloth when you rinse. In addition, if you gently scrub in small circles, the cloth also acts as a light exfoliant! Also, don't forget to rinse your hairline, your neck and the nooks on either side of your nose.

STEP 4: Finish by splashing your face two to three times with cool water (not freezing cold—again, you don't want to shock your face) to close your pores and then pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

Not washing your hands - Before you start with washing and cleaning of your face, thoroughly wash your hands. You do not want bacteria from hands to be transferred onto the delicate facial skin.
Don’t use cold water - It is a big mistake to rinse your face with cold water due to close the pores. Not only will the cold or hot water shock and irritate the skin, but it will also lead to varicose veins on the face.

Be cautious when applying facial cleansers - Never apply facial cleanser without moisturizing your face first. Most of these products are aggressive and should be mitigated by water.
Not rinsing and repeating - If you don't wash out well cleansing product, it will dry out your skin and clog pores. Rinse face until you completely remove the cleanser. Do not forget to rinse the area close to the scalp, as this leads to skin irritation.
Do not exaggerate with peeling - Exfoliation removes dead skin cells leaving smooth skin on your face. But if you do the peeling often, you can remove and dry up a new layer of skin, which will eventually weaken the natural protection of the skin of the face.

And what about the towel? - Towel you use for your face should always be clean and soft.
Going to bed with makeup on - Never go to bed without first thoroughly cleaning the face of makeup and dirt. Leaving makeup overnight can lead to accumulation of fungi and redness and irritation.

This is probably one of the easiest things I have tried and even if it isn't perfect it still looks great. My eyes are a little crooked and it came out cute.

I am obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas, and I will actually be leaving for Disneyland tomorrow and thought this would be perfect!

1) First create a line for the french manicure

Laura Mercier Body & Bath- Crème de Pistache Honey Bath

*Media Sample*

Recently I was sent the Laura Mercier Crème de Pistache Honey Bath from the Body & Bath line. This stuff is amazing, the fragrance is absolutely delicious! I am a huge fan of anything pistachio so this scent is right up my alley. First time I used this in a bath and I even played around with the wooden honey dipper, which I love. It gives you a decent amount of bubbles and the scent is just so relaxing and pleasing! My skin was so incredibly soft after I didn't even put lotion on, plus I didn't want to mask this amazing fragrance.

The second time I tried it in the shower as a body gel. A little goes a long way in the shower and if using it that way I recommend using a luffa because the product is very thick and sticks to the skin easy. I like using it both ways, but using it in the bath I do notice it makes my skin more soft.

So far I've been using this everyday for about two weeks  and I have barely put a dent in it. The price you pay is most definitely worth it.

September Birchbox 2013

My first Birchbox back and I can't say that I am impressed. After not being subscribed for over a year I finally started seeing some great Birchbox's on other blogs, so I had to give it another try.

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service for $10 a month where you will receive full size and sample size products to try. You can redeem points by reviewing the products online and use towards purchases. This is a fun way to get introduced to new products or have fun sampling beauty products every month.

Here is the list of everything in my September Birchbox:

Ruffian Nail Lacquer:  $10 Received Full size

Davines Sea Salt Spray: $27.00 Received Full size

Le Couvent Des Minimes Gardner's Hand Healer: $8.00 Received sample size

Grand Central Beauty Skin Perfecting Polish: $38 Received sample size

Glam Natural Cream Blush: $32  Received sample size

I am definitely not giving up after one box but I am disappointed in the samples. For one my box was covered in the Davines product, salt was stuck everywhere and a quarter of the product is actually gone. The nail polish I will actually use only because it's close to Halloween and it's a great orange color. The hand cream smells horrible and really leaves my skin feeling greasy and sticky. The rest I have yet to try, for now everything will get thrown in my sample box, nothing really exciting for me.

But I do have fun with these boxes I just think I had my hopes really high for my return. Can't wait for October, here's a sneak peak video below!

Currently Loving- September Favorites

1) Morroccanoil Luminous Hairspray $22.00 - Loving this hairspray at the moment, very lightweight and has an amazing soft subtle smell. Great hold for a medium hairspray!

2) Laura Mercier Body & Bath Creme de Pistache $40.00 - Omg! I don't even know if there is another word to describe this. The smell is amazing and it leaves my skin feeling incredibly smooth, love this line!

3) Paul Mitchell Extra Body Shampoo & Conditioner $18.00ea- I have been using PM since I was a kid, but never really got into the brand till I attended a Paul Mitchell school.  I have tried this line before but never really used it on my hair since I already have really thick hair. But this month I was looking for some volume and body and I am definitely getting it with this duo!

4) Michael Todd True Organics Pumpkin Facial Mask $34.00 - This mask is truly wonderful. From the smell to the tingle it gives you on your face, I am already seeing great improvements in 2 weeks of using this product.

5) Sultra Bombshell Plum Nouveau $130.00 - This 1 inch rod is so versatile. In a review that I have coming up I will show you 3 types of curls you can create with this rod, and I love it! It even comes with a headband and glove!
